Dear Diary,
we awake to full sun after a very hard sleep. We seem to tire easily or maybe it's our schedule. Pat drops Chuck at Ship Creek downtown for several hours of fishing. Pat drives to a couple shops around town to find posters with no luck. Finally stop at the Anchorage Art Museum and find nice posters very reasonably and manage to find some nice small prints of Anchorage. Go to the Native Hospital gift shop to see what is in from the native crafters/artists. There is a lot of beautiful stock, so creative designs and very fine items. Pat finds 2 seal Christmas ornaments to add to our collection. A native couple are in the shop with their wares. The wife is the one who wove Pat's tiny grass basket earrings and she also makes beautiful beaded dolls that are her trademark. The husband works with ivory. He has two pairs of fossilized ivory earrings and Pat buys them from him. One pair for her and one for Brenna. Brenna walks over from her office and we drive to dolorio's for lunch. A cute little tea shop run by a family of women. Chuck calls, he's had no luck but someone near him caught a 25 pound king. Bren returns to work and Pat picks Chuck up at Ship Creek and he smells like fish even though he hasn't caught any. We have to stop at the grocery for ingredients and mail the 7 packages we have packed to go home before us. We get back to Bren's and Pat makes a huge batch of halibut chowder. It's her own made up recipe with bacon, celery, potatoes, onion, garlic, corn with peppers and cooked halibut and dill. The soupy part is fish stock with a butter roux, half and half added. It comes out well and makes 2 gallons of chowder. Some for the freezer. Pat and Chuck go to Karen's for dinner. It's still a beautiful day with sun and 50's. Karen has prepared a dinner of marinated flank steak, fresh organic corn and zucchini casserole. It is a delicious dinner finished off with strawberries marinated in Grand Marnier, whipped cream and shortbread cookies. We have a nice time talking and Chuck tires Chloe the dog out with her many toys. We drive back to Bren's and time for bed. Another big day and we're tired and ready for sleep. Night.
